Was at a sale while back and found what I think was a sickle grinder made by IH. It is a series of gears with a crank and double tapered grinding stone like would be used on a sickle. It has clamps on the bottom like it clamps onto something.round.What is it?Was it part of a binder or similar machine? Any value or was junk pile the best place for it?

I saw one in Ohio at the big red show. The Cowman had it there and was sharpening blades. The thing was designed to clamp on a wheel in the field and sharpen on the spot. I would keep it as a jewel.

I sharpened sickle assemblies with one for 10 years in my youth. They would do a much faster acceptable job of sharpening a bar full od sections than any other means. As experience with serrated sections dictated that they be sharpened only 2 or three times, replacement of the sections was also a familiar operation. There is a neat repair block with slots and guides that index the bar for knocking out the sections, and riveting in new. It is on the shelf in my dad's garage absorbing gravity. JimN

Would you be willing to part with the "neat repair block" that is gathering gravity in your garage? I have obtained a #12 Mower for the F series Farmall tractors and would like to have it. Are you interested in selling it? I remember using that repair block as a kid back on the farm and it would sure make a welcome addition to my collection.

Sounds like a sickle sharpner. It Clamped on mower wheel for use. I have one I gave $23 for. Have seen them sell for over $60.
