FELPRO head gasket on Super C?

The head gasket that C-IH sells fo the Super C is marked FELPRO. I put one in maybe a year ago and it held for a while, then began to seep antifreeze, so I did the job again. Second time I was very thorough - checked head and block for flatness, checked liner standout, throughly cleaned all surfaces, used copper spray, in proper sequence carefully torqued, then retorqued the head while hot. It held for a month or two, but now after setting for several weeks, it's seeping antifreeze again. Upon careful examination, the seepage seems to be coming through the fiber-like material that is sandwiched between the steel top and bottom layers of the gasket. I suppose with a leak of this nature, stop leak would fix it, but I don't think one should have to use stop leak with a new gasket.

Any of you had this experience? Anybody know where to get a gasket that is not made up with the porus fiber material in the middle fo the sandwich? What brands of gaskets have worked and where did you get them? My C-IH dealer may get a couple of FELPRO's back!

Most modern head gaskets do not have a seal around the water passages. I have had the same trouble when I was restoring antique cars. I followed the instructions to the letter but they seeped anyway. I found out that they left out the phrase "let them cool back down". The sequence should be to torque to spec, run to normal temp, (more than 15 minutes), let cool down to original temp, torque again to same spec. I did this last one a month later after several heat/cool cycles. No more seeping.

I have had this happen to me But mainly when they sit in colder weather! It just seaps a drop or two but don't leak when running,If you think about it like this ,When things are cold they shrink and when there hot they expand and i would say its normal if it seaps! Just run it a wile (several hours of working the tractor) then go back and retork the head and check the valve seating, I wont say that you will ever stop a head gasket that onece in a wile shows a drop of antifreeze on the side of it.

My 706 did this after I replaced sleeves last year. I torqued to specs, everything was clean and the head was resurfaced but it bubbled in several places. I didn't have the time to pull the head again so I just ran it. In about 10 hours of feeding hay it sealed itself up. Now with 150 hours on it no leaks at all. Maybe the gasket just had to conform itself to the head? I'd say as long as there is no water in the oil just run it and put it through several heat cool cycles and see what happens.
