I think I'm in love with little red tractors!!! In this case it's an IA that I think started life orange. Anyway, has been snowing since I got it but sun came out and I went out to see if it would run. I pulled a plug and looked inside, lots of carbon but no rust. Put in battery from my FA. Looked in tank, empty and nice, put in gas. Opened valve, gas dripping from carb, tapped it twice, or thrice, dripping stopped. Radiator empty, filled with 50/50, no leaks in 10 minutes. Had oil so---- Mag off, full choke and tried starter---nothing but a hot cable. Got crank and pulled 6 times, its 18 degrees outside. Engine stiff but pulled. Half choke, mag on and pulled it----fired!!!! Surprised me and I slipped and fell on my butt, kind of tripped on plow blade strut. It sputtered, popped, smoked, then roared--no muffler you see. Crud sprayed out all over the place but it stopped smoking and just sat there and ran. So I'm sitting there rubbing my butt and I see the plow blade lift up off the ground!!! The handle was left in the up lock position and I didn't check. Put it in neutral and the blade dropped about half way and held. Cycled up and down a couple of times and it holds fine. Ya gotta love em! My JD is now ungainly looking and glonky and the C4 Cat is now just noisy and chews up everything. Besides, they are both a pain to start.

Luckier than you know. Oh, I have lots to do on it-like, it has Bosch gen for lights with no battery but has normal switch and starter and all lights are missing, besides all of the usual stuff to do. But, I went out to pull the starter this morning and here comes my wife. I was all set for the 20 question routine and the disapproving looks etc. She stood there looking at it for a few minutes, went inside and came out with ear muffs, gloves and a big coat. Climbed up, sat down and said "I could drive this one, start it!?!? Next thing I know I have the starter and she has the tractor. She is still out there pushing the snow around, almost an hour now with a big grin on her face!!!!

There is absolutely no cure for RED fever. Who ever gets it is infected for life.

what a great feeling. You probably need to start with new cables get 1ga use pos ground then see if the starter will turn over mite need to take to a shop and have new brushes and slots on the armature cleaned and smoothed sure can make a big difference when starting.I have used the new starters that are avail on e-bay for 115 plus shipping of 15 as everything is new no core chg. ggod luck on a great purchase.

Roger:
Welcome to the wonderful world of the Farmall A, SA, 100, 130 and 140. Small, reliable and very strong for their size. Easy to love, eh? Yep.
