what determined if the f-12 had a overflow between the fuel pump and the carb that dumpted in the front of the gas tank at the top? will this effect the tractor running if i use a tank without the over flow.I see them both ways.all comments will be appreciated.

I think all F-12s with a fuel pump used the return T. If you have a tank without it, it is probably an F-20 tank. The Waukesha tractors were the only ones without a fuel pump.

I believe some had a T in the line and just circulated the excess fuel. But yeah, when the pump puts out more than is being used it has to go somewhere.

The "T" is not a normal "T". The end that screws into the tank has a small hole, like 1/8" drilled in it. A normal "T" would allow any pressure to be built to open the needle enough to allow fuel to flow. I fought that probelm for a couple on months and finally fiqured out that was the problem. But either way the overflow need to be on there.

roger, you have to run the tank with the overflow because when the carb float needle shuts off the gas the fuel pump keeps pumping and thus the return or overflow to the tank. sort of like a pressure bypass on an electric fuel pump. when the pressure gets to a certain level the pump shuts off until the pressure drops. i don't think there are any pressure bypasses on any f-12 fuel pumps but i could be wrong. good luck.
