I have an old pull behind rotary mower that has a large handle to lift or lower the wheels for height adjustment. Obviously it's quite a chore to lift or lower this unit because of the weight. I don't usually need to change the cutting height, but often I need to lift the mower to get off of a stump, rock etc. I was thinking off adding a hydraulic cylinder to the mower that would push the arm to raise the wheels. I'd like to plumb this directly off of the belly pump on my H. Question is regarding the hydraulic operation of the belly pump.

Would plumbing a line directly from one of the outlets of the belly pump to the hydraulic cylinder, extend the cylinder when the belly pump is activated, then would the hydraulic oil return through the same line back to the belly pump so that the cylinder would retract from the gravity weight of the mower once the belly pump is deactivated? I guess I’m just trying for something simple without adding a control valve.

Thanks in Advance,

Jim

It is as Steven describes.
I used that setup for my washboard remover, works fine. Only thing, I never get the whole road done without at least once forgetting that the hydraulics stop when the clutch pedal is in, have the instant "What's wrong with this thing now?" then the strike head "Doh!"
Good Luck,
Wm

Forget about the hydraulics! That looks like a scabbard along the side of the seat of that H. Hunting and window farming all at once? I don't think my heart could take so much excitement at once!

Coyotes, feral dogs. Healthy ones wouldn't ever give me a chance, I'm not quick, but rabies happens to wild canids around here. Anything that would give me time and let me get close enough is suspect. I bagged a raccoon in my yard one aftenoon a few years ago that tested positive. Wm

Yes, you are correct.

Be sure to plumb to one of the front outlets on the belly pump, as the rear outlet is delayed for use with mounted cultivators.

One hydraulic line from a one-way cylinder on your mower to a front belly pump outlet. Pull the handle all the way back to lift, 1/2 way will hold the mower up, and all the way forward will lower it.

The only reason to add a control valve on a belly pump system is to control more than 1 cylinder independently or convert to two-way hydraulics.
