Buy an M?

Hey all.

I posted last week about opinions about buying an M, and the general opinion was to just get some old iron and have fun.

So, acting on that advice, I am going to head back home and check on a tractor. What I know about it so far is that its a '49, has been converted to 12 volt, electronic ignition, has a rebuilt carb, and supposedly a "Power Pack" installed with a recent engine rebuild. Its running great, and needs some paint and will need rear rubber soon. No loaded tires, but rear wheel weights.

So, can anyone tell me anything that I should look for, what a good price would be, etc...

Also, what size rear rubber came stock on an M? And what do most people run on them today? just curious....

Thanks in advance!

My M has 14.9x38" tires on 13" rims.....
It looks real nice....

Back in '48 and '51 when we bough our Ms new....11 and 12"x38 tires were offered from the factory.....we chose 12"

I am running 16.9 x 38's on my M. It has teh power pack and the slow first geaar. Power is never a problem. Just watch out for water in the oil. Also check the clutch adjustment and try the gears.

I have two 400s. The 55 has 13.6 and the 1956 has 14.9 X 38. The Ms were probably the same. Check the rim width, that will determine the width of tire you should have on it.
