Just thinking some more about the direction of the dist. drive, and was wondering if the distrutors were different as Wardner stated, because the diesel didn"t need timing advance. Several years ago I got into the direction when I bought a hydraulic pump for a 600 diesel from Steven Az. which he took off of his W-9. Still works great, thanks Steven.

Hmm... never had a pump from a gasser W-9. I sold a distributor drive pump from a WD-9 and another one that was set up to bolt to the front of the tractor and run off the crankshaft.

Hope it worked out for ya~!

Don't have parts book now to look at,but I remember when I was double checking things in the 600,650 parts book. It showed different advance for the gas and diesel. Both used advance, diesel not much and I think the only parts different between those 2 was the rotor which controls max advance and springs which controls the RPM along with weights that advance starts and at what RPM it reaches max advance. Weights were same both. I don't know if some WD9 distributors had no advance like some of the MD sized engines or not.

Geoff, got to thinking I better say its the rotor shaft I'm refering to and not rotor button. also on the 400 450 diesel distributors I have fooled with that have advance go to full advance as soon as engine starts and steadies out. On those the hole in rotor shaft for the total amount of advance is real small compared to Gas.After looking at the 600 650 gas, diesel distributor differances in parts book I thought if I ever needed a distributor for a W9,660 or 650 gas. All I needed and easy to get is a 400 450 diesel distributor with advance, then get the right advance springs for the gas, then inlarge advance limit hole in rotor shaft to gas size.

Or if you would like to go the mag route, I have a CCW mag with 35 degree advance for a 9 series. Brian
