I am proud to say that I am the new owner of my uncle's 1953 Super A. It looks like a piece of junk (there is no surface without rust on it) but it means a lot to us, so we are going to go all ahead full with the restoration. But I do have a question. After the serial number, there is a suffix of JA. Does anyone know what this suffix stands for?
Thanks,
Lane

As noted J means Rockford clutch, A is distillate, not kerosene, if that matters. Kerosene is B. The same "A" code may follow the serial on the engine also. Top right of block under #1 spark plug.

Lane, Not sure but I think J means Rockford clutch; A means kerosene burning engine.

Lane, Another thought....does your tractor have a starting gasoline tank with extra hole in hood for the starting gas cap, all-fuel exhaust manifold, shutters? Of course some of these items may have been removed sometime earlier but if any are present you probably have a "fuel burner".
