We broke the steering wheel off the 560 yesterday. Some seem to think it's a handle used to mount and dismount the tractor. Where can I get a new one fast!!?? Any tips for removing the old one? Heat?? Liquid penetrants not working. Any one placed handles on fenders or other useful things for grabbing onto instead of the steering wheel to get on?

Butch

I am told posi-lock are very good. Would look up the spelling, but haven't been able to afford one. They lock the jaws on to what you are pulling. A small one is just over $100.

Go to the nearest salvage yard with IH combines and use one from a cab combine their usualy in really in good shape and will fit.I like the smaller diameter wheel better on my 560.

i used a small puller, wd40 and a small propane torch and it wasnt to hard to get off, couldnt budge it till after about 10 min of heat it came off then, the splines get rusty. got the wheel off ebay and also had the ih logo cap on it. i.m thinking it was 32.00 have to look up. they have more.

Hi Butch, Are you using that new riding stable?
Here's a web site for tractor salvage yards. There's some in WI and some may be near you. Hal

Easy Bob's, Bates Corp, Steel Wheel Ranch, just about anywhere, maybe $80, if you want a new cap, it will cost almost as much as the wheel,

There is a salvage yard at Downing WI. They are about 8 miles south of HWY 64 and about 45 minutes west of Eau Claire.
If the steering wheel is beyond repair, you might be able to use the edge of an angle grinder wheel to cut into the hub and try to split it. You could try to drill into the hub, along side the spline to relieve some stress and to allow the heat and some penetrant fluid to work into the joint. ??SDE

Is the 560 wheel splined? Yeah, I'd use heat and a good puller. For fast and cheap try ebay and watch for the buy-it-now listings. I bet you get a new one for $30

Cowman,

Speaking of a good puller, Where can I find a good one? I have been through half a dozen or so over the years (ranging in price from cheap to what I thought was expensive) and have yet to find a good one. You seem to be in the know What would you recommend?

Butch

I mostly use a piece of flat stock and a couple old bolts. I have never used a jaw type puller that was worth a damn.
