I have them off, will have a tire company come out and install new tubes and rubber(I took the rims off so I could sand and paint them up nice too).

do most people lay the tire down, then lay the wheel in the center, then bolt up all the clamps?

Save your money and take the rim (only the rim) to the dealer and have your tires mounted. It saves the $50+ service call. That's the way I do mine. Not hard at all for them to mount them that way, perhaps easier with the rim mounted on the wheel, as Rusty says, but not that much difference to experienced tire people. As the others say, mount the wheel on the axle, then attach the rim and tire. You really need a hoist for the wheel itself, unless you have BIG muscles or someone to help you.

Actually, the tire man will appreciate it greatly if you put the rim back on the tractor. Much easier to mount new tubes and tires that way.

I think that would be the hard way. If you've got the wheels off the axles it might be easier to put them back on with the tires already on, if you're by yourself and don't have a hoist, but I don't think that would make up for trying to hold the wheel up in the center of rim with the rim lying on the ground.

Arod leave the hub on the axel because need to trun the whole thing to see that it is straight as you bolt up the clamps if not it will not run true. Tighten each bolt a little at a time, lay a block on the floor for a gage to sheck run out.

I have never had a rear tire and wheel off the tractor at the same time. I would always mount the wheel first, then mount the rim on the wheel. The pieces are smaller that way and easier to handle.

Andy are you realated to Paul Martin the former PM of Canada or are you related to Wayne who owns the 856 with the 466 engine and hypermax-roosamaster stock pump?
