I have a 756 Farmall -Gas. Seems to be a very good tractor. Is this tractor prone to any specific types of trouble? Are they better or worse than others of the same size and year? -1967. Thanks, Loren

After I changed the fuel cut off selenoid, gas consumption became much better. -Now not much more than my D-17 Allis. both great tractors.

Loren,

My dad and my uncle both have a 756 diesel, my dad has had his 7 for around 25 years and is still his biggest tractor and was just overhauled for the first time last winter with 14,000 hours on it, my same uncle did the overhaul who is a mechanic and found nothing wrong with the motor, except just needed new seals. Even though yours is a gas, they have been very good to us...

Well other then the normal stuff like the T/A and a few Quarks with the engine they are and excelant tractor for what ever ya want to do with it . Then big things are keeping the clutch linkage, transmission break and dump valve in adjustment making sure that the T/a spool valve is going all the way up and down . Running 93 octain gas in it keeping the timeing set to specs. and basic maintance . Now the other big PLUS is getting a org. owners manual and read it . And pratices tractor operation safty . When they are wright they run like a swiss watch.

Hey Loren,

That 756 is almost a "rare bird". Don't see many of 'em around.

Good solid tractor like Hugh says and they don't have any negative points.

'Course, like any gas engine, you can count on an engine overhaul every 5,000 hours.

Good Luck with your tractor.

Allan

It's biggest downfall would be fuel consumption. There is a reason we went to diesel 40 years ago.

Loren: The whole lineup of 56 series tractors were good, perhaps the best IH ever built. They are now all 40 years old plus, and the ones that have been well maintained are still good tractors.
