How many parts did the first F-20"s share with the Farmall Regulars? I"ve seen many with the external starting tank. What other features should I be looking for, thanks.

Humm, I've never seen one that didn't have the two-compartment tank. But I have seen lots of tanks with a cast neck on the rear tank. The first F20s retained the old E-4 magneto. Of course the duck-bill steering gear. The first ones used a cast seat bracket. Other than changing the crank pulley to drive the fan faster the engine stayed pretty much the same as the late Regular, of course the transmission is all different with 4 speeds for the new F20. Brakes stayed the same. That's about all I can think of Jim.

Howard, My 1929 Regular has the full brake covers like the F-20. Have you seen many like that? The parts book shows it as "Special", so I guess it could have come that way.

sprout. there are some examples of early f-20's with regular rearends and regular engine serial numbers. i had heard that this was to use some surplus that ih did not think they would sell. you can see this on thier over the counter parts, for example . when you bought a cylinder head for a regular late it would fit the late f-20 fan mount or the early f-20 or it would have the regular oil guage holes, etc all of the above. so these early tractor makeups are hard to say what they might have. if you ever find an early f-20 with regular parts, leave it that way. it would be an interesting speculation piece if nothing else. if you find an early f-20 missing pieces, check the parts book against the serial nomber and go from there. russ
