Anyone know of a good tool for removing the valve springs/keepers? I've got one for 'regular' sized engines but it's too big for the small spaces of a cub. I've gone the screwdriver route before, too slow. Any recommendations? Thanks!

I use a brigs and stratton type compressor, but I have turned one set of jaws over and rather than squeezing the spring with it, I rest one jaw on the casting below and open the compressor to push the spring up. When reinstalling the keepers put a little dab of grease on the inside. They will stick to the valve stem while you release the spring.

Sears has an adjustable valve spring compressor for just under $20.00.

It will work on the Cub. You will need to use a block of wood on the top of the block because the height adjustment isn't great enough for the Cub.

The Sears valve spring commpressor works well on other small engines.

Check out the spring compressers for Briggs and Stratton.
