Hydraulics not working right

I have a 1937 McCormick Deering T20.
It has aftermarket hydraulics. I am unable to get the blade to lift. I have lots of down pressure, as it will pick the front of the tractor off the ground. I have replaced the control valve with a one spool control valve with float preset pressure at 2000 psi. I was told that I needed a pressure control valve on the return line from the control valve to the tank.
Any help or information would be greatly appreciated.

In my opinion if you have two double cating cylinders they can be controlled by a single spool valve. Connect one end of valve to a "T" going to the bottom of each cylinder. Connect the other end of the valve to a "T" going to the bottom of each cylinder. The inlet to the valve goes to the pump, and the outlet goes to the resivoir. Inlet and Outlet are near the center of the length of the valve. If the control seems backward reverse the position of the "T"s to make up into down. I hope this helps, Float systems require more complex valving, and possible use of non-open centered systems. JimN

sounds more like a plumbing problem. Are you sure you have the hoses in the right ports on the valve?

Yes all the plumbing is in the right place.
When tractor is running the hydraulic fluid is returning back to the tank all the time.

Merv,

Don't know squat 'bout your setup, but if it is an open center system, it is supposed to dump back to sump whenever the engine is running and not under demand. That oil has gotta go somewhere. :>)

Are you real sure you have those lines routed correctly for your lift?

Allan

Thanks all for the information.
Everything appears to be hooked up correctly on my system. According to the information I have that came with the control valve.
The problem may go deeper than what I want to dig into personal. Any more information, would still be greatly appreciated.
If I don't get it worked out in the next week or so, my nephew is coming up, and I will ask him. He works for Caterpillar as a field service mechanic. So maybe he will help his old uncle out.
Hopefully free of charge.LOL.
Thanks again for the information. Any more suggestions keep on sending them.
