Hi all jsut following up on some of the progress I made. I cleaned and put the champion d18 back in checked my adjustment on my carb and it's good (I guess I don't need a pro like gordo) unhooked my air cleaner from the carb and off she went. ran her all over the countryside for about an hour, checked plugs still clean, so I'm guesssing like a couple of you suggested it's my air cleaner problem, I thank all of you for your help and input, OH ya tractor vet I'm in the northwest corner of Ohio. antwerp to be exact

Well thank you anyway. I got another question for you. Should I see my timing advancing with a timing light, even with electronic ignition? It seems to run well even under load and I'm not seeing it advance.

Until the Tractor Vet arrives I can tell ya it shouldnt make much difference as far as any vacuum or centrifugal advance curve if theres a set of mechanical points mounted to the distributor plate that rotates (to advance or retard the spark) versus a pickup coil that senses the passage of a magnet on the distributors center shaft, cuz the same mounting plate (if working) will still rotate and advance due to the centrifugal action of the weights n springs, it dont know whether a set of points or a pickup coil is mounted n rides on it. There may be some slight variation due to the different weight of the pickup coil versus points n condensor and the fact that the elec switch is faster n more positive, buttttt ttttt if alls working the mounting plate should rotate (advance n retard) regardless cuz it dont know whats riding/mounted up top.

SOOOOO OOOO YESSSSS S you should still see the timing advance n retard relative to RPM regardless if points or elec switch..... ..... .

Will see if the Tractor Vet agrees????? ??

Yes the electronic deal only eliminates the points and has nothing to do with the advance as that is all mechanical .
