Could be a lifting link for something like a rope wick bar or some other chemical application apparatus[ sprayer boom]. Looks like something a dumb farmer would rig up anyways.

Mower lift. in reply to Mike CA, 08-15-2006 22:04:16
Not all of it is there, but that mower lift uses a cultivator cylinder. That cylinder is for the front of a four-row cultivator. The shaft from the cylinder is inside a piece of pipe that is on the end of the cylinder. The cylinder is extended, and probably the rest of the lift is gone.

Guys, does it look like that cylinder is extended and then the shaft is rusted? Probably start leaking if it was pulled back into the cylinder. That shaft is supposed to be chromed and shiny and clean so the seal don't leak. Harley

Harley, I noticed the rust also. It's my guess that the cylinder is nothing more than scrap iron.

Guys,

The actual "ram" is hidden inside the pipe that attaches to the cylinder. It is only about 3/4" in diameter. These cylinders had two "pipes"; an outer and an inner.

That outer pipe on the cylinder doesn't move, but gave the whole works laterial stability when it was inserted into the forward tube. The forward pipe is a necessary part of the assembly tho and mounts (and usually stays) with the implement.

My guess is that this tractor had a belly mount mower at one time and the owner just bolted the lift assembly up to that torque tube when the mower was removed.

Well, that's a hydraulic cylinder. Not sure what it's doing there. What's the back side of it hooked to? Something solid like the drawbar? Or is it hanging free? If it's free it was probably used on some attachement(but that front mount doesn't look too sturdy). If it's hooked to something solid in back like the drawbar, it's supposed to move that link it's attached to in front, but someone else is gonna have to tell ya what it is.....been 20yrs since we got rid of our H and I don't remember anything there that was supposed ta move....

hmmm. I don't have a picture that shows it from the back. The rear pics I have show the drawbar, but you can't see in front of it. The tractor is 4 hours away, so I can't go see it.

Well, from the looks of it, I'd say it about has to be intended to move that peice it's attached to on the front of the small shaft....moves something inside the bellhousing/tourque tube area. But like I said I don't remember anything like that on the H I used to run(it was a Super). I'd bet good money though that somebody on here will know exactly what it is!
