Just helped a friend cut up a 141 combine for scrap. We have the engine, which is in good shape, still leftover. Saw an ad the other day for a 460 with a bad engine. By the time I called the guy, he had embarked on a 500 mile trip to pick up a 141 combine engine for the tractor. Turns out the guy lives 6 miles from me! Will the 141 combine engine really fit in a 460 tractor? Would that engine fit in anything else besides a 460 (if it does that)? Wonder about in a 706? What would be a fair price for the engine?

The 460 used the C-221 engine. The 141 IH combine used the SD-240 and the BD-240 engine.
Someone else may know if they will fit the 460.Hal

The SD, BD and BG engines were the truck equivalents of the C-221 thru the C-301 found in the 460 through 806 tractors. In most truck configurations they had a downdraft carb, but in the Metro vans some had updrafts like the tractors. Max recommended rpm for the truck motors was 3600 RPM, so there might be an advantage to using one in place of a lower-rpm ag engine.

Hal,
Whats the difference in the 2? We use to have a 141, and I still have the owners manual but it makes no mention of 2 engines.
John

This info is in my Borg Warner book, does not give the difference. It has the same engines lised for the 127 combine too. Hal
