I was wondering if anyone had any advice on how to fix the engine block. Would it be best to get a new engine or would you be able to weld it? Any advice it greatly appreciated. Thanks

Depends on whats wrong.Cracks can be welded or pinned, but it depends where it is.A highly stressed area will continue to crack until its trashed. Why not remove the engine, have it rebuilt completely, and if they find the crack cannot be repaired...at least the engine is out so you can drop in a used/rebuilt one.

There is more than a crack. We were tilling our garden and heard a loud noise and the side of the block actually has a huge hole in it. To be honest I think we are going to have to get a new engine for it. I don"t have a lot of money to spend so I am trying to find a cheaper one but not able to find one.

TDK is probably right on what happened to it. Also as he said depending on where you are there are a lot of places to find the parts. Shoot I have an H that is locked up at this time bout the block is good as far as I can tell at this time. I haven't really done much as far as tring to get it unlocked so it might even be good as it is if I get it popped loose.

Sounds like you threw a rod through the side of block. A good used replacement would be the cheapest way to go, if it did indeed throw a rod, cause the block will need fixed(if possoble), crank is most likely damaged and rod is trashed. Engines from an H, Super H, 300 & 350 will fit your 300. where are you located ? Someone on here probably knows of a few salvage yards in your area.
