I purchased a 1949 Farmall M last fall and it has a hand clutch in addition to the foot clutch. I was wondering what it was used for and how common they were. It does allow you to run the power take off and stop the tractor. I have several books on Farmalls and I have not seen one mentioned.

Look up M&W gear, they are still in buiness in IL. I have gotten the manuals from them. They have two offices and will steer you to the corect one.

Anyone know where I can get parts for the M&W hand clutch? I still have the owners manual for it, when my dan and uncle installed it in the 60"s

I don't know anything about getting parts but I would be willing to pay you for a copy of the manual if you would be willing to send it.I may need it down the road .

Allows you to stop the tractor without stopping the PTO at the same time. Used to slow or prevent plugging hay equipment (balers, etc) under heavy conditions. Would also be handy for using a bush hog etc, or sprayer--you could back into a corner, and have the pto running before the tractor starts moving, that is have them up to speed before moving the tractor.

That is the essence of it. M&W add on product/Accessory. Handy in some conditions and though not """RARE""" it is more valuable with it than not. (especially if it works)
