Farmall 300 wheels

I think the keyway cast into the wheel on my '55 Farmall 300 broke out while I was muscleing the tire and wheel assy off the axle. This is a 38" wheel, I think the same as H's and Super H's. Is there a repair procedure, or do I need another wheel? A little more than half the keyway is still intact. Seems the left wheel drives more, maybe I could just put the good wheel on the left side and put the other on the right axle. Any advice?

I once sheared the key in a 300 wheel. That was 50 years ago and a machine shop cut a keyway in the cast wheel. We put it back together with a square key stock key that filled both keyway in axle as well as wheel. To my knowledge it is still going and the tractor is now on it's 6th set of pistons and sleeves.

Not counting power adjust, steel and large axle 2 3/4 size wheels they were 3 types of wheels used on farmall 300 tractors. First type on early tractors were like H,SH with 6 clamps to rim. Next was the 8 clamps to rim with cast in key.Last and also used on 350 was the 8 clamp to rim wheel with keyway machined in it and a seperate key used.Have found a few of the cast in key wheels that were repaired by making the key slot in wheel and using the seperate key like later wheels. Don't know what they cut keyway with, they done a nice job.

If you are talking about the half moon key that slides into the notches in the on the axel- then you need a new cast. You can weld it but it will break off very soon.
