Does anyone know any good tricks to removing the rivits from a serial # tag? The old H I/m working on has a very good tag on it and I don't want to damage it when sandblasting. Also has a lot of grease under it. The rivit heads are kinda flat, looks like someone overdid it just a little when it was installed. Thanks, ken

Drill them out. you can get new rivits to replace them.

Take a good, close look at those rivets. The rivets on my 1940 M turned out to tiny little screws, with slotted heads for a tiny screw driver. Those screws turned out quite easily, and then I was able to clean up underneath the the tag. I don't know if those screws are original, but they appeared to be.

I`d leave it too.I`m all for keeping things original if at all possible. If you want the crud out from behind, you can soak it up with some wax and grease remover and with something thin scratch around back there and blow it out. Keep repeating the process and it should work. Mark

Just use a small bit in a drill motor and drill the heads out. It should pop right off.

Don't remove it.
Leave it like it came fron the factory.
