We have recently came into pocession os a W-6 Diesel tractor. This tractor starts on Gasoline and then switches over to Diesel fuel. This can be very tricky process. I haven"t been able to master this process yet and was wondering if any had any hints to make it easier.

I have a WD-6. The only problem I've had with starting is that it'll sometimes die while warming up on the gas side - suspect I need to overhaul the carb. Always starts right back up.

Once its running on gas the only problem I've ever had is trying to switch to diesel too soon when the engine is cold. Just need to let it run a little longer, sometimes a couple minutes.

Once trick I did discover (think from reading some of the archives here). When you're ready to make the switch to diesel, open the diesel throttle until you just start to get a little smoke, then push both levers to the diesel position. This minimizes the loss of speed during the changeover.

Tell us what you find so "tricky". I ran a WD-9 for years. Nothing to it to start it. Put the diesel-to-gas changeover lever in the "gas" position. Be sure the engine-speed-control lever (which only controls the diesel speed) is in the fully-off position. Start it on gas and let it warm up a bit, then move both the diesel-to-gas changeover and engine-speed-control lever together, toward the "diesel" and "engine-speed-control on" positions. Like I said, nothing to it.

If it does not start right away on diesel you may have to let it run on the gas side a bit longer (sometimes up to a couple of minutes) How many hours are on the motor you may have a bad pump, bad injectors, or even dirty fuel filters. If you have a pressure gauge on the injection pump what does it have for pressure on high idle (wide open).
