I think I made a big mistake!

I took the injection pump off the MDTA yesterday. Should I have marked the timing somehow? My I&T manual did not say I had to, and since the gear stayed with the tractor I thought it would be ok. I would just have the rebuild shop put the pump back together with #1 cylinder at TDC and align notch on damper pulley with indicator on block when I put it back on. Since then I've been told that the pump needs to go back on the same way it came off. Am I in big trouble or not?

Have the rebuilder put the pump on # 1 cyl, remove the spark plugs and turn engine until #1 comes to the top on compression. You should bein the ballgame for fine tuning then.

No, I made a big mistake when I let my SMTA in parts go a few years ago for a song and a dance. Oh well, no sense crying over spilled milk :<( !

As far as big trouble, probably not. I’m not familiar with the MDTA, but there has to be a way to get it back in time again. The person doing the pump should be able to help you out if the IT manual doesn’t have the info and no one here doesn't either.
