I have an International 424 with live pto that has a whirring bearing noise that is present except when clutch is pushed all the way in to the second stage. Then it quietens down. It makes no difference whether the pto selector is in or out of gear or whether the transmission is in or out of gear or in HI or LO range. The clutch doesn"t affect the noise until it pushed all the way down. The transmission ,pto both work fine.

Dano2,

I replied to your other post, and offered to email parts breakdowns, and AFAIK I know, you never emailed me.

My 424 has the same PTO setup as your's. The PTO driveshaft from the clutch is concentric with the transmission driveshaft, and then a gearset drops the PTO power down to the shaft that goes back to the PTO disconnect. That shaft is INSIDE the hollow transmission countershaft. So, there are 3 or 4 bearings in the PTO system, between the upper driveshaft and the lower shaft going back to the PTO disconnect, one or more of which must be "rough".

The parts breakdown offer still holds, but it might take a day or two to pick up the book at the shop and scan it! Tomorrow is one of my sons' 18TH birthday, and the other boy's Junior Prom. Ought to be interesting!
