We have a 966 that possibly needs a ta and clutch replaced. I was wandering if there is any different type of ta or a heavier clutch that could be installed and what the differences are. And could anyone tell me what the MCV is?

The TA has clutch packs in it. The hi side can have 3 or 4. The low side can have 2,3 or 4. Depends on what you want to spend and how you will use it. The 4/3 combo is used alot around here. CNH has a diode TA which is the positive drive type gear in the low side and the after markets like Hi Cap, Allied or Ag Parts have a one way sprag clutch which is very good. Some people have had trouble with the diode one. Pressure plates are OEM or heavy duty. If you don't have hyd. assist it will be hard to push in with the HD one. Disc's are 6 or 8 buttons. The 6 is common for most jobs.

Well on a 966 i always installed the HD T/A and you can get a heavier clutch , but one thing if you go with a HD clutch ya had better have a Hdy asst. clutch booster or have one tough left leg . Now a word for the wise they are still having a bunch of problems with the Case I H Diode T/A's and if ya want one to stay in there and not have to redo this job in two three years then go with a Hy. Capacity HD unit i have installled a bunch of them over 19 years and to this day all of them are still going , But they must be installed correctly as this not just pull one out and stick one in .

There are several TA and clutch choices available from Mother CNH, as well as aftermarket suppliers like HiCapacity and others.

MCV = Multiple Control Valve = the plate stack on the LH side of the tractor, behind the clutch housing that the steering lines, the TA shift lever, as well as the clutch dump valve rod all connect to. The power steering pump is internal, mounted to the backside of the MCV.
