Sure it will.
Take your time, and a Super C will have enough power for the job, but be aware that it is a very light tractor and don't try any fancy driving on hills. We used to bale with a 300 pulling the baler and wagon, and on occasion when the 300 went down we would drop the wagon, hook the 230 to the baler, and away we would go. The 230 model is basically the same tractor as the Super C, but maybe a few more ponies.

Rusty: It sure will run the baler, back 50 years ago we had a neighbor, who never owned a tractor heavier than a Super C. He had to have been baling 25,000 bales annually as he had 100 holsteins in an area that had 7 months stored feeding. I remember it being a PTO driven baler, and his dad well into his 70s did all the baling. Man could that old guy bale hay. He never pulled a wagon behind, but he did bale on hills, some of them quite heavy hills.

The old guy was rounded over from many years of hard work. Most folks said it was because he pushed the Super C so hard on the baler, that everytime the plunger made it's stroke, the impact draped the old guy over the steering wheel. He was close to 6' and I'll bet he didn't weigh 135# soaking wet.

I don't even want to think about how many bales I did with our old Super C and IH 45 baler. Talk about a slow painful process. We never tried to haul a wagon behind it, just let the bales fall on the ground and picked them up afterward. Second gear most of the time, first gear when the windrows got heavy, and sometimes third gear downhill in light hay with a tailwind. One of the happiest days of my life was when my dad finally bought an M and the Super C got demoted to tedding and hauling the wagon.

On the other hand if a Super C is all you have and you are only going to put up a few hundred bales a year, I would say "go for it". Just take it slow and easy, and do the best possible job of raking ahead of it. Carefully raked, even windrows, without any big wads will go a long way toward making up for the lack of live PTO. I really would not try a wagon behind it unless your ground is just about dead flat.

You bet she will just dont make the windrows too big. You want 12-14 slices per bale.

A Super C will handle a baler and wagon, presuming the tractor is in good shape. I'd be careful on the hills but I wouldn't hesitate a minute to bale with a Super C. As a much younger man I baled thousands of bales with a H Farmall, a 14T John Deere baler, and loaded the wagons to about 130 bales per load. The only time we had any trouble was when the sidehills were so steep the bales would slide off the side of the wagon. Then we'd drop the bales and come back later with the wagon to load them.

I'd say "go for it".

Thankfully all the ground I work on is flat. so hills won't be a problem. I'll go for it. Thanks, Rusty

Dan, I also have a 350 D but it is in sad shape. It was started on as a restoration, engine done with new sleeves, pistons, head done, etc. The shame of it all is it was left outside and got filled with water. You know the rest. I am currently looking for a motor for it so I can start the restoration over.It still needs many parts.Huge project. I'm going to try the Super C and see how it does. Thanks, Rusty

The short answer is no. No live pto, not sufficient power.
The longer answer is sure if the bailer has an engine on it.
The C will have a difficult time controlling a wagon load and baler. Dropping the bales would work.
My two cents,
JimN

Too light. in reply to Rusty Shafer, 03-16-2006 11:12:30
A fresh Super C would likely run a small square baler ok on level ground with light hay and no rack or kicker. It's really too light though and you'd get pushed around a lot the baler behind you.

I would think it should work. If not I'll bring my W6 over, we'll "Git her Done"..... ....
