I just got done restoring an ex USDA research tractor for Purdue University. On the front post there is the word "Delomectral" (sp?) Does this mean anything? Also there are multiple date stamps with the year instead of a letter. S for 49. Since this was sold from harvestor to the USDA we are wondering if this is special. Thanks for your help

If I remember correctly, Belectromal was a special mallable cast that IH used for all the pedestals on this series tractor. The 450 had this also. Don't know about the 560 series.

Why isnt this cast on all farmall m"s then? Also why are the dates that are stamped actual numbers instead of letters? Thanks!

Sometimes I see year numbers instead of letters. I have a 1936 F-20 with "36" cast into the date code. I guess it depends upon who is setting up the castings, and if the letters are missing or fouled. I think I have seen this in the M series up to the 50's.
