We have the pancake feed and a couple tractor pulls now. Tried the tool-bolt man but our area wasn't very kind to him. One county over they really support him. I could use some new ideas. It gets old asking for donations from local business's all the time & it gets old for them listening to us too.

In the past the FFA rented city owned hay ground, at a discount. The ground was unused portions of cemeteries, land along side the runway at the city airport, well heads, economic development land, etc..

I don't know. What do you need money for. Why don't you guys in your alumni club dig in your own pockets. I get sick of being expected to finance someboy elses pet projects. Our tractor club pays it's own way and all our events are free. WE DIG IN OUR OWN POCKETS My church is the same way, if we want to do something special, we don't have bake sales or something, WE DIG IN OUR OWN POCKETS.

EASY cowman, he's not asking for money from out of your pocket.
Not everybody makes the money you obviously do.

One of the biggest successful fund raisers and "Supervised Farming Practices" we had was to take the ground on which the new High School was to be built and farm it. We then got the local machinery dealers to demonstrate their newest tractors, plows, disks, etc. We then publicized the events so the Indianapolis Star, the local papers and the machinery dealers could take advantage of the publicity. We then got the local seed corn dealers to sponsor the latest variety of corn and used test plots to see how well it all did. I also did that same thing when I was doing my student teaching--with very good results--had a dynamite Vo Ag teacher that got me into all of this!! Realize that was a different time/era, but it sure did seem like a way to get the community involved without getting our hands too deep into the local pockets! Very fond memories!

We sold blue & gold sausage . I think they sell chicken strips, smoked turkey, sausage now.

Maybe you could work the consession at local ballgame for percentage. We did the slave labor sales, where local people would bid on students for labor.

Basically it will be the same people supporting that always do, but it makes it more interesting. This was a small school, graduated with a class of 18.

We leased land on shares 50-50. We did all the labor our Dads paid for the fuel and the equipment (we didn’t, ask, we just told them we were going to put in the FFA ground) Local seed and fertilizer dealers put up the seed, fertilizer and chemicals for our half and the landowner paid for his. Be sure to hand out wall hangers for thanks at your pancake and sausage breakfast. KJM in MO

Yep, my chapter sold fresh grapefruit and oranges, shipped up from down south every winter, we'd go out and get preorders on it and then make one big purchase, then deliever it, that made good money. Also sold calenders at the same time. Also had an ice cream booth at the county fair, that was a good fundrasier too but finding volunteers during fair time proved to be a big challenge. All kinds of stuff you could do and I'm sure you will find something that will work in your area.

We did a couple of things when I was in school. The biggest fundraiser we had was fruit sales. This was extremely popular around the hilidays and was very profitable. The last two years I was there we had a test plot. We would get local dealers to donate seed and usually got the local co-op to give us a little break on fertilizer and other inputs. we rented ground or went on shares with another farmer and this was also extremely profitable as well as fun and informative. Shoot me an email if ya have any more questions or want more details.

Good luck and God Bless

Back in the old days. The FFA would have a Sweetheart Ball. Each high school class would have a Sweetheart nominee. After corn picking, each class would gleen the fields. The Sweetheart of the ball would be the nominee of the class to turn in the most corn.
The FFA earned money, the farmers had less volunteer corn the next year and everyone had fun.
I think it's good to involve group efforts, provide a useful service to the community and enjoy doing it all at the same time.

Do you have any property owners? know of any fencerows that need cleared? Have able-bodied helpers? I know of a group that gets together and cuts and splits firewood, sells it in the local area, delivers too.
