Putting together the front axle on my 130 farmall. Which direction do the bolts go? Do the nuts go on the bottom or on the top. The pictures I took before dis-assembly show the nuts on the top.
Thanks Joe/Mass

joe: If you are talking clamps around axle for tread adjustment, they all came from factory with bolts upthrough and nuts on top

Joe: I have seen a few of these over the years with the nuts on bottom. I don't expect it really matters, tight is tight and that is what counts.

Over the years I had 16 Farmalls all bought new or very close to new. 6 of those tractors were offsets like your 130. The rest were H or larger and I had wide front for all of them. In every case the bolts were up through with nuts on top.

The C, SC, 200 and 230 are different, the clamps go at 90 degrees compared to the rest. The bolts run parallel to the ground. Why IH did it that way, who knows? Again tight is tight, and that is all that really matters. Aside from these all new tractors had nuts on top.

What part of Mass are you from.

Joe: My geography on Mass is not top notch. Where is that in relation to Framingham or North Attleburo?

Melrose is about 10 miles North of Boston. I bought the tractor from a Farmer from Wilmington who sold out to a developer.

In my opinion they go in from the top, nuts on the bottom. Use antisieze compound on the threads.

I think that a wetdown of the telescopic tubes with LPS corrosion inhibitor prevents headaches laiter.
