Took the Thermostat housing off my H to replace the upper hose and while I was that far I'm going to replace the Thermostat but I'm having a problem getting the old one out. Looks like there is a brass bushing inside the housing. Is this part of the Thermostat? I pulled on the thermostat and streched it out. I have never seen a thernmostat like this one. Any suggestions would be appreciated
thanks

I"ve replaced thermostats in several H"s and M"s. Every one was corroded and impossibly stuck inside the gooseneck and had to be chiseled apart in order to be removed.

Incidentally the AutoZone part #800-180 thermostat, while shorter than the OEM unit will fit and work fine in an H. The price is right too - about $4.

A quote from an article on this site

"I installed the oil pressure gauge line and mounted the radiator and thermostat housing and hoses. When I replaced the thermostat, I had to chisel the old one out. Someone else had tried to remove it because it was badly damaged and nearly stuck in a closed position. That engine must have run hot with the position of that thermostat"
