I have a Farmall Cub that has what looks like a drilled hole about 3/16" dia. on the bottom side of the exhaust manifold, just above and to the front of the carb. inlet flange. Is this supposed to be there? It looks factory, but makes a black sooty mess of the paint on the carb. and engine block. It doesn't make sense to me.

Three solutions

Adjust your carb to limit the soot (needed any way)

Thread the hole and put a fitting with a metal tube pointing away from the block

Thread and Plug the hole and use a exhaust pipe rain cap.

It was put there as a drain for water running down the pipe.

Tractor Vet is right, that hole is supposed to be there, don't attempt to plug it. The solution is to start the engine and then make the tractor work for awhile, get the temperature up and keep it there for awhile, and you will burn all of that black gooey stuff out. No more drips.
