I have noticed this on a lot of Farmall heads. The casting numbers have been ground off but you can usually make out enough to tell what number it is. But why did they do this..maybe a blemish or reject head? I bet someone knows why. I have seen 4 of them this week.

Sometimes more than one part number could be made from the same raw casting. One part number was cast in. If it was machined to the other, the part number got ground off and the other one stamped in. I know this was done to make high altitude heads for the Cub.

Don't know if that is what you have found.

The ones I noticed it on was the 8060 the 400 gas head and the 450 gas and LP heads. It makes sense what you guys said. Thanks

Don't know the reason, but a possibilty is that seems like a place they crack if the antifreeze gets to weak in cold weather.See some repaired there.Sometimes find # stamped on right rear side
of head.

I have 4 H heads, and they all have the part #s ground off. I think this happened when the tractors were converted to straight gas tractors years ago. I don't know if any modifications were done to the heads, or if the dealers were just "cheating" a little. All four tractors that the heads came off of had the X1 added after the tractors left the factory. ken
