Calling the correct police - Super A question

I have a "50 Super A that is well used but in very original condition. Several parts had been removed and came to me in a box. Among them were the headlight supports. The short one is obvious, but the long one had about a 30 degree bend in it about 1 and 1/2 inch from the end the inserts into the casting. The parts catalog shows the long rod to be straight - not bent.

At first I thought perhaps the PO had hit something and bent the rod. But this week I saw the exact rod on e-bay and the seller says it came from a SA. Does anyone know if the bent rod was put some SA models? Was it used in conjunction with some type of equipment? In use, would the bar be oriented so that the headlight was in front or behind the radiator?

I"m not an originality freak, but I would like to keep all the original parts on the old girl I can. Any tips to the puzzle are appreciated.

Wish this topic had been posted earlier. I too had a bent left headlight bracket on my 53 SA. Thought it was due to an accident. Mine came w/ cultivators but i didnt put them on before straightening the bracket out. Now i'll have to bend it back. Learn something new every day i guess.

I seen the one on e-bay and i took it as it was bent, need to be straightened. My 52 model is both straight. 48 is missing both front but has the rear.

The angled bracket was used with the cultivator for the A. Something about clearance for a bracket that fit on the steering gear casting. Can't remember exactly, but we have two A tractors with the angled light brackets. Haven't had the cultivators mounted in quite a few years.

The lights are still on my 1950 Super A that my Dad bought new, and they are both straight.

The parts manual shows 2 types. Straight for regular SA and then what looks like a straight post with an L bracket on the end for Super AV and "SA with adjustable front axel and 6:00 - 16 tires". I guess the extra clearance was needed for some reason on the taller tractor?

Stan: Sounds as though my 130 came from the factory wrong. I had the straight light holder and 6.00x16 front tires.

Hugh,
Stan2270's info is correct. I had to wait till this morning to check since I left the parts cd at work. He posted, "SA with adjustable front axel and 6:00 - 16 tires". You didn't mention if your 130 has the adjustable axle or not. I checked in the 130 parts book as well which lists the same info. So, if you have the adjustable front axle, then yes, you should immediately send your tractor back to the dealer to get the update and tell them they need to issue a factory recall ;) :)

Stan: I been away since Fri., my reason for not posting. I don't think I'll go for a recall. With adjustable axle it came new with 6.00x16 tires. I'm not disputing what is in the parts books as I've never looked. Both light supports are straight on the tractor. Looking at the tractor, I can't imagine how the left light could ever come in contact with the wheel.

Slappy: It is now 50 years since my first encounter with a Super A, never have I seen anything but a straight light shaft or rod whichever. I think the bent ones came from driving to close to some object more solid than the tractor.

Hugh, it has been a little longer than 50 years for me but like you I have never seen anything but the straight ones.
