Bob, Just found your post about the 350U. "Chschafer is right, if it hasn't seen a lot of loader work or been abused, then the steering box is probably OK. Determine how much of the steering play is actually in gearbox. A 1/4 turn in box can usually be fixed. If it has manual steering,there's only two seals in it. One each on the steering shaft arms. Leaks here is easily seen. On a power steering box they can leak at above seals as well as at the seal underneath the steering wheel. All of the above is an easy fix. Both boxes have a welsh plug in the bottom that can leak, which will require removal of gearbox. Could also be a hyd. fitting,line, cylinder on the box. If it has independent pto the actuating handle will be on the right of driver, between hyd, valves and fender. If regular pto the handle will be a small rod behind the seat, between the rockshaft and the chassis. The brakes can usually be fixed by removing and cleaning. Sometimes you will have to replace balls, springs and disks. If, after removing them, the inside of housing shows signs of oil, then the bull pinion seal needs replaced. You may already be familiar with this if you've encountered the same problem on the SC or 130, as the 350 brakes are basically the same except larger. The 300/350's are good tractors for their designed purpose. Great for small farm, easier to get in to tight places or low sheds than a Farmall.
