I have a farmall cub that I believe is a 1971 , best I can see of the serial numbers. I have just started working on it and would like to know the correct carborator for it. the engin has the numbers 251228-R.I can not find any numbers on the carb. and believe the previous owner put this one on years ago. I have had it running but all the linkage is off from the choke to the governor and throttle. Thanks for any help you can give. BRB3

Two carbs are typically found on a Cub - the IH carb (it will have the IH logo on it) and a Zenith carburator. I'm not certain which your tractor might have come with, but if you were to go to your IH dealer (now Case-New Holland, CNH)today they would sell you a Zenith.

As to the linkage it should run from the carb to the governor. Your speed control linkage from the steering support should run to the governor as well - just to the opposite side. You set your desiered speed by adjusting the governor, the governor in turn revs the engine up or down depending on the load to keep the speed constant. The only other linkage rod you have to the carb controls the choke.

Hope this helps. If you have other questions you can go to the Farmall Cub board - they speak Cub over there better than anyone.
