Tractor Storage

It is really dry here in Texas lots of grass fires around lately which has destroyed a lot of property. Got me to thinking about lots of things but one was storage for my B Farmall. It is currently stored in a small wooden building on my property. I have been working on ideas to build a larger shop, but haven't made any progress so far.
I saw the other day some of those metal cargo containers for sale. The B would fit in it and it wouldn't burn up in a grass fire. What would be the effects of having a tractor sit in a metal box in the 110 degree TX summer heat?

I agree with all of the previous comments. The only advice I could offer is that if you go through with it consider the following:
1. Paint it white.
2. If possible place it in the shade.
3. Install a couple of turbine fans in the roof to draw hot air out.
4. Make a couple of vents on the sides near the bottom to allow air in.

When I was in the Navy we used these containers for paint lockers to store aircraft paints, lubricants and other flamables. The idea here was the opposite of your application, we used them to contain potential fire hazard rather than to isolate from the fire hazard. If ventilated properly and painted WHITE, they make suitable storage for most items. I am working on using the box cover off an old 4 horse trailer to store my F12, any port in a storm....

Hi , you're thinking outside the box ( HeHe ) so to speak . The temp inside the box with no ventilation would do bad things to the tires and the gaskets if not the paint and steering wheel and grease and , and , and .... It may help some to put a wood frame inside of the box and insulate it as you would your house but then there might not be enough room to use it for anything other than a shop area . We use semi trailers as job storage and they have aluminum tops ...here in Iowa they get so hot even with the rear wide open it's not healthy to stay in them for any longer than needed to get what you need . Someone else may have a better alternative ? ...Randy

Worst thing would be cooking the gas.

Not too bad if you could leave the doors open or can provide some other kind of vents top and bottom to allow air flow. that 110 degree air feels mighty cool when you are coming out of an attic.

Alternatively, a sun shield over the top will do a lot to keep it cool. Even sheet metal nailed on 2x4's laid on top will do a lot. The radiant energy heats the tin which then can't re-radiate very much to the container.
