While pushing snow with the Farmall "300" (row crop) it locked up in gear. Over the past year, this has happened a couple of times on me. Before, all I did was remove the shifter and align the notches on all three rails put it back together and it worked fine. This time after I put it back together it is still locked in 2 gears. I have taken it apart a couple of times and even moved the rails into different gears with a screw driver, then realigned the rails and notches, but it still stuck in 2 gears. Any suggestion what my problem is and how I might fix it? Thanks for you help.

Many moons ago I kept getting trans stuck. Then I realized I was trying to shift before I had the clutch depressed all the way. Havent had one stuck in years since I started making sure I had clutch depressed all the way before shifting.

If you are sure you are getting it lined up in nuetral you could have a broken shifting fork.

Goose Creek Farms: You will need to get all those shifting rails at neutral, then put shift lever back. Your problem here is worn end on shift lever. You need to build it up by welding, make it the size of the notch in one of those rails. build it just bit snug, then grind it until transmission will shift smoothly. When your done it should be rectangle shape and very slightly rounded on corners.

You may encounter some problems getting those rails to neutral as you may have some presure from being in two gears at once. A little trick I learned many years ago. Use another vehicle for an anchor and with the aid of come alongs, pull on tractor. You may need to do both directions before done. The amount of presure you apply will affect this as well. You may have to play with a bit. Just be patient there is a point where by they will come out of gear.

I have done the same thing with my 300U . When lining up all three notches, make sure they are all in the neutral position. Mine can all be slid either forward or backward but still be lined up, can"t remember which. So it seems to be OK, but not. Does this make sense? Slide all three then try it. Might have to depress clutch or rock the tractor. If this doesn"t do it might be bigger problems. Good luck, Gus.
