Hi guys, The old 504 is really strutting her stuff in this snow. It hasn't complained a bit. Got an IH loader on the front and a generic blade on the rear. She will work all day. problem; I won't. I'm getting old and like to stay warm. Do any of you know where I can get a "Good" heat houser? Now, if I were half the man our friend in NW nebraska was, I'd be leanin over the hood, inviting the cold air down the front of my Carharts but.. I'm a Midwest Whimp.

Sloroll: These are quite easy to fabricate, especially if you have flat top fenders. Of course the older tractors like 300, 560, etc with rear mounting made it quite simple. I had sections of tarpolin that would stretch from side of grill to back of fender, one for each side. I had them tapered about 2.5' at front to about 4' at rear. I tied them together on top in front of steering wheel.

Now that won't protect your face in the wind, but I guarentee if you have a flap at back so air from fan has to come up around your body you will be quite comfortable. One problem I had was at temps above 20F, I had to anchor tarp at clutch housing and roll tarps back a bit from front as it would get to hot in there. I had to let some of that fan air escape. I used these mainly in early spring and late fall tillage before the days of cabs. It was much easier on the older rear mount row crops. I had one on 656 for couple of years and just climbed up over 3 point hitch to mount and dismount.

Then this age thing, is also a factor for most of us now. We wouldn't enjoy the climbing anymore than we would the cold. My neighbor is always telling me, he'll come over with 150 hp 4x4 and heated cab. I tell him there is one difference between us, being 63 and semi retired I don't have to get out until weather turns nice after storm. I took his raincheck in case. One night I needed out and it was very miserable. His tractor was running by house, so I knew he was just having a coffee. I called him and said, " I need to be plowed out, now the 47 year old 130 is still willing, the problem is 63 year old flesh.

There is another little source of humor in the neighborhood, now red faced humor for the most part. When I moved here 4 years ago, most folks thought it was a joke, me thinking I was going to keep this 400' driveway open with my little Farmall. This dooryard was notorious for drifting snow. One week ago it was up to top of my car. The only way I can give in is plead the 63 year old flesh thing. Can't let the Farmall take the heat.

Bill,

The cost of the heat houser is only expensive if you can only use it for one year. I've seen your airport hanger and it's neat as a pin. With your attention to detail as an aircraft mechanic, I would bet you can easily get 7-10 years use out of a top quality heat houser. That's pretty cheap heat divided out over the long haul. Those IA winters are long. Spend the money now and save the worries. You'll have alot more fun on that 504 behind a nice heathouser. You may even want to hire out your services then....(hee, hee)

When you looked at the site for the heat houser you were looking at the International heat housers. You needed to click on the "heat houser" link at the top and then select farmall and you will find a nice expensive heat houser for a 504 row crop. It's the USE-2 which stands for "universal side entry".

Hi Sloroll,

I think I'd grab some 1/2"plywood, 1-1/2" angle iron, a fan and heater housing out of any used car, some plexiglass and make my own. That way it will custom fit what you put it on.

If you use the angle iron to line the six section pieces then bolt each section together then you could take it off at the end of the season and save it for next year but it would store flat so it wouldn't take up hardly any room.

Add a couple ball valves on your cooling system with garden hose quick disconnects to the heater coil. Just shut off the ball valves and pop the QD's and drain the heater coil for storage.

Add a fan relay and switch and you have cab heat and defrosters with some simple 2" round duct work.

Back in the good ole days(yea right) when I was a kid at home and we didn't have cabs on tractors my neighbor would put the heathouser on his super 88 diesel, then put on the umbrella, and finally an old piece of carpet or tarp across the back of the heathouser. It looked kinda goofey but it He stayed warm.

Them Cabs are pricey aren't they. That is what I was hoping ot find though. Thanks!

Sloroll, you did not look far enough on the Heated Houser website. Your 504 is listed under Farmall look in the following link....

I build my own with a piece of plex-o-glas and a couple 99¢ blue tarpaulins. Gotta put it on the WD tomorrow.

Just might end up doing that Howard. I need to run the old girl down the road between the airport and home (about 3 mile). I haven't seen a houser that fits a Farmall 504 yet. I guess I could solve the issue by buying another tractor to keep at home..... Hmmmmm.
