Happy New Year,... and Steering Wheel Knobs

Happy New Year, during which I have resolved to get much better acquainted with my tractor, with bearings and seals, with penetrating oils, and with the gentlepeople who post to this board. Next question: the knob on the steering wheel carries an imprint, "Irrigation Pump Co., Columbus, Neb." Was this an advertising give-away? Is my tractor (like me) an immigrant from the Cornhusker State? Were there other imprints? Like seed-caps? Thanks.

These were invented in Columbus, NE by the gentleman that started the company. They still manufacture the knobs there.

Although it could be a promo give-away, I'd rather think it was installed by a previous owner who had it laying around. Probably used originally on irrigation shut off valve wheel and migrated to your tractor's steering wheel. I don't ever remember steering knobs as a give-away from any company but, I can sure remember the first ball-point pen I was given! That was a great invention./FB

Definitely an off shoot of the irrigation industry. Some guy grabbed one off a water valve because he couldn't steer his tractor in the mud and the rest is history. Now, if you find one of those neckers knobs with the necked lady on it you gotta scoop.
