A couple of weeks ago (after I used Bob M.'s trouble shooting guide) & discovered that I had a bad voltage regulator, I ordered a new one & replaced it. After I replaced it,I jumpered between the "BAT" & "GEN" terminals at regulator & started. It started right up & I let it run for a while & the ammeter showed a charge, which it did not before. Well, I went to start it today & at first it started right up & then after a little while, it died on me. When I went to start it again, it was DEAD. I turned on the lights & it still shows a discharge, but when I push on the starter, NOTHING happens. Any ideas out there was is happening or I should check? Thanks for all the help.

Granger, I dont know from sitting here if shes not starting cuz of a drained battery or a starter or starter switch or wiring/connection problem. HOWEVER that dying n failure to re crank makes me wonder how good n how much charged the battery actualy is and makes me suspect a short somewhere thats discharging the battery..... ..... .. Sooooo oooo insure the battery is good n capable of accepting a charge (maybe have a shop load test it) and if so give the battery a good charge, then see if she will crank and we will go from theres maybe looking for a short thats discharging the battery.

Have the lights on when you try n crank her n see if they dim down badly when you try n crank her????? If so I suspect a stareter problem. If they like dont change much when trying to crank, then I suspect a bad connection or a bad starter switch. If in doubt in the meantime I would remove, clean n wire brush n reattach each n every battery n starter switch n starter n ground cable conneciton then try her after a good battery charge ????? ?????

Kinda acts like the batery is simply dead if she died n wont re crank and a short may have caused that even if the genny and new VR are both fine.

Lemme know
