'52 Super M - Some things just get better with age

I have been posting questions for the many Farmall experts on this forum and I want to thank all of you that have helped me. My super M was purchased brand new by my grandfather in late '52. Unfortunatly he passed away in '54. A friend of mine that owns and operates a feed store here in kentucky bought it from a tobacco farmer and once I found out who originally owned it I begged him to sell it to me. I begged him to sell it to me for 12 years with no luck. The machine just set there rotting down without being ran. Occasionally i would slip down and pop the plugs out, pump several shots of oil into each cylinder, and rotate the engine by hand to keep her from locking up! Thankfully my buddy is a big fan of the green machines and gave in and sold me the tractor. That day she got new: plugs, wires, cap, rotor, points, condenser, belts, oil change, battery, carb. overhaul, and some fresh fuel. I had to wing it on my carb. adjustments because the dang I&T manual i have doesn't go into it. Luckily the adjustments were close enough. I pulled out the choke, hit the starter, and it was alive in about 5 revolutions! My fun was cut short by one of the calcium eaten rear rims but I'm fixing to give her a early x-mas present and put all new rims and tires on her. When i'm done with it, it's going to look like it did the day my grandfather drove it off the dealers lot! P.S. can anyone tell me how to properly adjust the E12 carb? Thanks again.

I like to hear this kind of post. As for the carb , run the screws all the way down and then back'em out about two and 1/2 turns and go from there. On a old carb its hard to adjust without rebuilding it and a kit is fairly cheap. Good luck.

The one thing that got better with age was your appreciation for that tractor. Your appreciation on how much hard work it took for your grandpa to buy it.

You are just getting to the fun part I think.

Congratulations!
Jay

i'm what many of you guys may call "a young pup". i'm only 23 years old and i can tell you first hand that most people in my generation have no interest or respect for the hard work that our fathers and grandfathers done. Most want handouts as opposed to earning there keep. In my curio along with my many letter series precions sits my great grandfathers original Rumley oilpull operators manual, service manual, parts manual, along with his thresher manual. Ask about anyone else in my age group if they even know what a Rumley is. It's a shame.

My hat is off to you Tom. If you have been asking for that tractor for 12 years, you were only 11 when you asked the first time. It could be that they wouldn't part with it because they didn't think you could handle it. In the meantime, you learned that if wanted it taken care of, you better do it yourself. You proved yourself.

You've also proved yourself as resourceful and humble as you found this place and aren't afraid to ask for advice and help.

Me? I'm no help, I just like to BS. However most here are great help.

Jay
