My dad has a 966 and he is wondering if you can put a loader on it. If you can, what type of bucket system would you need. Thanks Jake

Jake, Get an IH 2350 Mount-o-matic loader. As Nat said the mounts all bolt up to the existing holes in the frame. You can use your regular remotes for the Hydrolic controls, so no special joy-stick is needed. To get out from under it pull 2 pins and start backing out from under it. While letting it down.It is very straight forward. It will be some of the best money you ever spent. There are very few times I don't do something with mine It is on an ol 73 966. I have had it over 13 yrs and still can count the times it has been off on one hand. It seems every time I take it off I nned it back on sooooo why take it off.
Later,
John A.

Jake:

I have an 856, different of course from a 966, but the loader will mount almost the same. Look around for a decent used loader, heavy duty, with float. I have an older Koyker K5 for my 856, I like it a lot, but no float. Westendorf, Allied, etc.. all make good loaders. You can pick up a good used loader for anywhere from $1K to $4k. Look at the pivot points and look for welds on the loader. Nat I am sure that I am wrong about a bunch of things here, so just feel free to correct me.

I could be wrong but all you need to do to have float is to readjust the stop bolts under the levers. All loaders have float if you engage the hyd. lever in right spot.

Jake Westenforf makes the best front end loader, it is like having a second tractor as far as mounting and dismounting. With the 966 it will handel as WL40 very nice power bucket as well float on lift and bucket.

That's all fine and dandy if you want to spend $20,000 to put a loader on a tractor that's only worth $10,000 if it's in mint condition...

If you can find a used IH 2350 or 2450 loader, these bolt right on using existing holes in the frame rails. They also mount and dismount very easily.
