I just replaced the fuel filters(2) on my International three cylinder diesel and I am unable to prime the system. This unit isn't equipped with a primer trigger and I would appreciate advice as how I should prime/ bleed the system. I've tried running the motor on Ether/ WD-40, but still unable to get system primed. Any advice, well almost any, is greatly appreciated. Thanks, Mike m_rohkohl@hotmail.com This message also posted in HVY EQPMNT section.

On my Case 1030 I just put about 40psi in my air hose and stuck it in the fuel tank with a rag wrapped around it and it fired right up. Maybe I was just lucky.

try opening the injector lines one at a time qwith the help of some one crank over the engine until all the air is bled out then go to the nezxt line and do the same. you may need to dos at the ionjection pump and at the cylinder head. once all the air is bled out of the system you should be able to start the engine .

Crack an injector pipe at the injector and turn the engine on the starter to get the air out. MJ

There should be air bleeders on each fuel filter.

You will also need to crack the supply line at the injector pump to get the air out.

Nat, I cracked the bleeders on the filters and I believe we even craced the supply line though I'm not a 100% certain on that one. Being that there isn't a primer, shouldn't the fuel simply gravity feed and fill the fuel filters/ resevoirs? The second filter is located lower on the frame than the first, and lacking the primer, I thought the fuel would flow freely once the lines were cracked...am I missing something else?

It should be easy to follow the line from the secondary filter to the injector pump to find the right line to crack.

You need to crack the line at the injector pump and let the air out. Even if you bleed out the filters, there's an air pocket trapped in that line, and diesel injector pumps are not good at moving air.

If you crack the line and there's no fuel running, you didn't achieve anything.

I'm just going by the recent experience Dad and I had changing the fuel filters on his big diesels. The 856 doesn't have a priming pump on the injector pump either, and we had a heckuva time getting it running. We ended up cracking the supply line at the injector pump just as I described, and then it fired right up.
