I am having problems starting my Farmall A . I had the Mag rebuilt and has plenty of spark. I think I timed it right I followed the directions from the manual and what I have read on here. I can get it to pop and then it stops, every now and then I will get it to pop pop pop pop pop and it will act like it is going to take off then it will die again. any ideals? thanks gerald

Thanks got it timed today,. Tried to start it with starter but still no luck. pops once every time you crank it. so my Dad and myself did the ole pull start through the yard. we got it to start up a couple of times but then it would die. as we pulled it Dad would play with the choke and it would try to run better ,but not for long. So I am thinking its Carb problems. going to take it apart and give it a good cleaning. thought I cleaned it good , but after sitting for 13 years I might of missed something. Hopefully this works if it doesn't I will be lost on ideals. Thanks for everyone who has helped me get this far with it.

Make sure you're at TDC on the compression stroke
on No1 piston. Then look where your rotor is pointing, should be at No1 plug wire on the cap.

Probably not timed correctly.
Make absolutely sure #1 is top dead center.
Slot for mag should be just a little clockwise of horizontal.
Turn impulse wheel on mag until rotor points at or just a little in advance of #1 distributer cap post.
Impulse should be about horizontal at this point.
Hang mag on engine and rotate counter clockwise until mag touches block.
Rotate engine up to next firing point and stop at top dead center. Rotate mag clockwise until it fires or trips.
Lock it down. Should run!
