What's the best way to tell how many, if any shims to use when reassembling brake shoes/new linings on an F-12?

Each shoe has 1 thick (like a 50 cent piece) and 3 thin shims (like thin strips of tin).

I got one side put back together. The tractor moves OK, but the drum warmed up pretty good. Would it be OK to just burn them in a bit?

Thanks,

Dan

You shouldn't have to "burn" them in. When reinstalling the brake drum, if you feel any drag, remove one of the thin shims and try again. You don't want to force the drum over the shoes. You also have an external adjustment screw w/locknut for wear adjustment later on. Don't throw away any of the shims because you might need them later after the shoes wear.
