d236 vs d282

Are the engine blocks for the d236 from a 460 and the d282 from a 706 the same? I know they had the same bore with a bigger stroke for the 706. What, if anything, changed? Or are they totally different?

The 236, 282, and 301 are all the same block. The 282 cu in was achieved by using a crank with a longer stroke. This was used in the 560, 706, and the 656. The 301 had a bigger bore and was used in some of the combine models as well. Prety good old tough motors but start hard. Need a good battery and the glow plugs to all work properly. Migraine

As stated, the 282 has a reputation for being an real bear to get started, however...there are exceptions to this.

I have one in a 560 that is a real good starter. I have already started it to -12 F when the engine heater failed. It was a bit grouchy, but did go. In the winter I run straight 10-10W oil, and at least 75% #1 fuel. The valves and seats are all very close to original factory spec, and the pump and injectors are all good. Good batteries are a must and also good glow plugs.
