I am looking to purchase a tractor. Will be used to plow a large uphill driveway, pull a mower and maybe a cut/bale 10 acres of hay. Currently own a WD45 WF with a loader, will be selling it as no power steering, no 3pt & would like a little more power. Would like to spend around $5000-$8,500, any help would be appreciated.

Am I missing something. A 3-point adaptor for the WD45 costs around $250- to $400-. I own several of the WD series Allis' (also a number of IH tractors)and they are not hard to steer - just take the off loader or drop off the bucket.

My first, last and middle name is cheap. I sure wouldn't spend $5000- to $8500- to replace a 45 horsepower tractor with live PTO and live hydraulics to mow and bale 10 acres.

Gene,

Thats cause you have not plowed enough minnesota snow. Trust me you dont want to spend an extra a bunch of extra time (fighting with no power steering) in the snow, ice, and cold :)

If you are devoted to red, then I would consider a 706/806 diesel. Actually, an 886,986, 1086 would be better if you are interested in a cab tractor, but will probably be pushing the top end of your price range.

If you are not picky on color, a JD 3020/4020, or a Massey 165, or Allis 190XT, or Oliver 1750/1850/1855 would all be good choices for all around tractors with good horsepower. I would definitely consider diesel instead of gas in all of the above choices.

Good luck!

Dale

I know this is the wrong page for this sugggestion but I think a Case 930 or 1030 is the best and cheapest horsepower going. IF you find a good one. I paid $800 for a 1030 that had been setting for 5 years and it runs terrific and does not use oil. For snow plowing the IH Utility series are TERRIFIC. Go slow and the right deal will find you.

as long as your not doing any heavy tillage work a 656 sounds good. any 06/56/66 would treat you well. a 656 hydro would be the cats a$$ for everything you decribe.

Thanks all for the help.

I purchased a 1964 Farmall 706D with the 282. New rear tires, TA, clutch & paint for $4,200.

Think the price was right?

Still need to find a loader to go with it.

Thanks again, Kent
