OK - so I get this 454. Run it around the dealer lot for an hour or so. Low and high range work great (side shift model) I tell the guy I want it. I come back to pick it up and he has serviced it all out. When I get it home, it "bogs down" in high range - I can go faster in low. I check the dipstick and the trans fluid is WAY over full. I know I need to drain about 3 gallons, but would this being over full affected the high range?

Hi Galen, the transmission dipstick showing over full is not a problem. The transmission is also the hydraulic reservoir, so if you were to connect an implement with a remote hydraulic cylinder that was in the lowered position and then when you raised the implement the hydraulic oil supplied would come from the transmission reservoir.

Re bogging down, check and make sure the parking brake is releasing.

I think that gearbox is "sorta" like the one in my Case-IH 385. The manual says to run the tractor at 1600 rpm for 3 minutes, shut the tractor off and check the fluid. If I check mine without running the tractor it reads overfull.
