Super C, racing engine, governor?

My super C suddenly started racing it's engine and throttling down had no effect. It now starts at maximum RPM even if the throttle is all the way back. I suspect the governor as playing with the carb has had no effect. My manual doesn't cover the governor adjustment. What is the procedure for resetting the governor once new parts are found? (I note this one has a little wire seal with an IH imprint and number on the adjustment screw, which implies it has been awhile since anyone adjusted or serviced it.

I had to change my gov spring,I was able to take the whole housing off just by removing the housing bolts and linkage.Like said previously mine would only idle slowly, but the thrust bearings were shot also.

Check to be sure the screws have not fallen out of the throttle butterfly in the caburetor.

The classic sign of a broken governor spring is not speeding up as the throttle is opened, NOT overspeeding, although I suppose the spring could have broken and jammed the throttle open.

If it is a governor problem, rather than a throttle plate problem, the thrust bearing may have failed, and wore the fingers off of the governor weights, or something elese may have happened to the weights.

You probably have a broken governor spring

What seems to be aggravating about it is that to get the Governor off one must remove the radiator grill, then the radiator, then the fan assembly, and then and only then, can the Governor housing be removed. Why didn’t they put the spring where someone can get to it?
