My SM block has a short nipple with a female T screwed on to it. In the front of the T is the water temp bulb, in the rear is a pipe plug.

I can't figure out any reason for that setup, why isn't the water temp just screwed directly into the block?

MY super m had that too. probably what it is is the pre. owner had a block heater on the engine and put a t in so he could have the heater hose go into the head and still have a temp sensor.

DAR,

Makes sense, never thought of a block heater since I live in a warm climate.

I forgot to mention that it was originally LP and converted to gas just before I got it. Don't know if that makes any difference.

Thanks.
